WICKY AND PAYNE GET THEIR FIRST WINS FOR MUNCE RACING
Dec 06, 2017
At Beaudesert on Tuesday, A Little Wicked, ridden by stable apprentice Rhiannon Payne, broke through to get his first win for the stable when he took out Race 4 the COASTAL TIPPER HIRE Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden Handicap over 1050metres.
It was a pretty uneven start but A Little Wicked was one of the few to make a nice clean break from the barriers and scramble for running positions. Payne, who rides the gelding in morning works, let the horse get into his rhythm and got him to settle up on the speed, one off the rail and a length or two off the leader. Just after the 600metre mark Payne made her move to go after the leader and pushed A Little Wicked along into second spot. As they travelled up to the home turn and with only around three hundred metres to go, she gave the reins a shake and horse and rider set off after Dashing Power who had kicked away from the field. A Little Wicked grabbed the lead off Dashing Power at the 100metre point and from there he held off the fast finishing Megashot to win by a nose in a photo finish.
Trainer Chris Munce was pleased to see A Little Wicked finally break through to get his win. It was very encouraging and satisfying for the stable to see the horse win for his very patient owners.
Payne, who was only having her second ride for hew new master, gave the horse a terrific ride from a tricky draw. ‘It was a good, strong positive ride by Rhiannon.’ said Munce.
A Little Wicked is a 5-year-old chestnut gelding by Wicked Style (USA) out of the Lion Hunter (AUS) mare Criolla (AUS).He has now had 9 starts for a record of 9-1:0:3
Congratulations to the owners and connections.
