KINGAROY GETS THE WIN TO GIVE MUNCE A TREBLE FOR THE DAY
Dec 31, 2017
On Boxing Day at the Sunshine Coast Kingaroy went back to back for his trainer and owners when taking out the seventh race, the HAHN SUPER DRY 3.5 Class 1 Handicap over 1600metres. It was a dominant win by the gelding and it also gave Chris his third win for the day after Argie Bargie won at Ballina and Saint Patricks Day took out an earlier race on the card.
Breaking from barrier 10, jockey Ryan Wiggins let the field go past as he bought Kingaroy back to the inside and slotted him in one off the rail and around third last. As they ran along the back it didn’t look like he was travelling all that well but it probably didn’t help when Jackson Murphy throttled back on the leader, Hand of Faith, and the rest of the field was caught up behind. However, by 800 he had picked up his bit and began to come home a lot stronger. As they began to head into the turn for home Wiggins started to move the gelding up along the inside rail and after the front runners. Turning into the straight race leader Hand of Faith rolled slightly off the rail and this gave the jockey the opportunity to pushed Kingaroy through and by the 200metre mark he had taken the lead by two lengths and from there was never going to be beaten. The official winning margin was .75 lengths in a time of 1:39:91
After the race, Chris said that it was a good win. ‘It has probably taken a little while to work a few things out with him but he definitely likes the big Caloundra track and the sting out of it certainly helps. I will let the dust settle and maybe look for a nice little Class 2 race for him up here.’
Congratulations to all owners and connection.
