Talented mares SKATE TO PARIS and SMARTYPY will be chasing further black type success in today’s Listed Spirit of Boom Classic (1200m) at Doomben.
The pair have already been stakes placed and head into today’s $125,000 feature race off the back of an impressive trackwork gallop together on the Doomben course proper on Tuesday (Watch the video below).
Trainer Chris Munce said the honest SKATE TO PARIS had benefitted from two trials leading into her first-up assignment.
“She has been stakes placed at two, three and four years. So surely she is due to win a black type race at five,” Munce told AAP.
“She is such an honest horse. You can never under estimate her and she seems to have come back well.
“I have given her two trials and both were good. In her latest she was second to Outback Barbie and she came out since and demolished a Listed race.
“I know trials are different but it did show she us she is on the right track.”
SMARTYPY has had excuses in her first two runs this preparation, having earlier produced some impressive trials before her return to racing including a win against the likes of I’M A RIPPA and SNITCH
“The trials are a better indication of how she is going than the races where both times she had no luck from bad barriers,” Munce said.
“These mares’ races in Brisbane have a history of upsets so I hope there is another one.”
The stable, which has recorded three consecutive winners from its past three starters, also has JOHNNY WHITESOX racing on the Doomben program in the WINNING EDGE No More Than One Metro Win Handicap (1110m).
At the Gold Coast today, the stable has DREAMACE chasing his maiden victory AQUIS RACEDAY JANUARY 4 Maiden Plate (1100m) off the back of a last-start second at Beaudesert while CUBAN MINT steps up to the 1400m third-up in THE GOLDIES 92.5 TRIPLE M RUSH HOUR WITH LUKE BRADNAM Class 1 Handicap (1400m).
On Sunday at the Sunshine Coast, ROZEIRA chases her maiden win in the NOOSA CUP SUNDAY 15TH DECEMBER Maiden Plate (1400m).
