DEGAS made the long trip to Grafton and returned home a winner after carrying 61kg to victory in the Class 1 Handicap over 1206 metres.

Jockey Justin Huxtable made the 600km round-trip for two rides, and was rewarded after steering DEGAS to his second career victory.

Named after the French impressionist painter Edgar Degas, the 4YO gelding – whose dam is Art Gallery – started the dominant $2.45 favourite. Despite being burdened with the topweight and being challenged in the home straight, he was tough to the line and picked up a cheque for $11,200.

With two wins from just six starts, the lightly-raced son of Show A Heart is starting to build a healthy strike rate.

Congratulations to his large group of owners: Mr D G Williamson, Kathyce Racing, Mrs M Lindemann, Mr J J McKiernan, Murrumba, Mr D J Watkins, Miss S I Watkins, Mr C P Goddard, Mr P M White, Mr W Treleaven, Mr J J Hinsch, Mr R Hinsch, Mr J Hinsch, Mr R Jakeman, Mr J B Hall, Mr A G Jolly, Mr J D Dever, Mr L Warfield and Mr B A McSwaine.
