DEGAS scored the first city success of his career when he toughed it out to win the Sky Racing Class 2 Handicap at Doomben on Wednesday.

After struggling to see out a mile on a soft track last time, the 4YO gelding found the 1350m trip much more to his liking and he was strong to the line to secure his third win from just nine starts.

Stable jockey Justin Huxtable, whose apprentice’s claim took 1.5kg off DEGAS’ back, has now been in the saddle for all three of his victories.

Despite finding himself trapped on the rail for much of the run, Justin stayed patient and after finding a gap at the 400m mark, DEGAS did the rest with an impressive turn of foot.

The future looks bright for the son of Show a Heart, who has now amassed more than $50,000 in earnings.

Congratulations to his owners: Mr D G Williamson, Kathyce Racing, Mrs M Lindemann, Mr J J McKiernan, Murrumba, Mr D J Watkins, Miss S I Watkins, Mr C P Goddard, Mr P M White, Mr W Treleaven, Mr J J Hinsch, Mr R Hinsch, Mr J Hinsch, Mr R Jakeman, Mr J B Hall, Mr A G Jolly, Mr J D Dever, Mr L Warfield, Mr B A McSwaine and Mr R Lindemann.
