THE MUNCE REPORT: MAY 25-26

May 24, 2019

A big weekend of QLD Winter Racing Carnival action for the stable with stayer FIRST CRUSH and talented three-year-old RACECOURSE ROAD racing at Eagle Farm tomorrow.

FIRST CRUSH (pictured) continues on his path towards the Brisbane Cup when he contests tomorrow's $140,000 Group 3 Premier's Cup, following on from an encouraging fifth last start courtesy of a more forward ride from jockey Matthew McGillivray.

RACECOURSE ROAD was a dual acceptor for the Group 3 Fred Best Classic and the Class 6 Handicap, but will run in the latter event after gaining a start this afternoon as second emergency.

On Saturday at the Gold Coast, two-year-olds DREAMACE, WOOLSEY and PHIONAIX will contest the 2YO Maiden Hcp (1200m).

WOOLSEY is also entered for the Sunshine Coast meeting on Sunday along with fellow two-year-old DUANE and stable newcomer GWENDOLINE ROSE.

Trainer Chris Munce gives his pre-race thoughts on all runners below:

Race 2 - 11:45AM LED SUPERSCREENS Class 6 Handicap (1400 METRES)
ColoursNo. / Horse Name / BarrierJockeyWeightStatus
18. Racecourse Road (17)     54kg

TRAINER COMMENT: "I'm really looking forward to getting him back to Eagle Farm. His ratings and his form suggest he's better suited there. If he does get a start in the Class 6, he will go that way. He's done very well and I'm very pleased with how he looks going into this race and he's fit enough."

Race 7 - 2:55PM EVA AIR PREMIER'S CUP (2200 METRES)
ColoursNo. / Horse Name / BarrierJockeyWeightStatus
15. First Crush (4)Matthew McGillivray54kgRacing

TRAINER COMMENT: "I've been really pleased with him going into this event and I thought his last run was terrific with a more aggressive ride from Matthew. I expect he can do the same tomorrow and find the fence in behind the speed. He's now getting out to distances that are going to better suit him and he's in good form so I'm sure he'll give a good sight for us there tomorrow."

Race 3 - 1:17PM CASCADE QTIS Two-Years-Old Maiden Handicap (1200 METRES)
ColoursNo. / Horse Name / BarrierJockeyWeightStatus
15. Phionaix (2)Scott Galloway56kg

TRAINER COMMENT: He's be wearing a tongue tie as he normally does and from the good draw, I'm hopeful he can find a spot in behind the speed. He's had a nice bit of work in between runs and certainly hasn't taken a backward step so hopefully he gets the right sort of run tomorrow and I'm sure he'll be in the finish for us."

12. Woolsey (13)Sean Cormack54.5kgRacing

TRAINER COMMENT: "She'll likely go to the Gold Coast tomorrow ahead of Caloundra on Sunday, although it depends how much rain they get at the Gold Coast between now and tomorrow as I'd like to get here on top of the ground. She's done really and she'll race in blinkers which will hopefully keep her mind on the job a bit more."

4. Dreamace (14)Daniel Griffin56.5kgRacing

TRAINER COMMENT: "The track is heavy 8 currently and hopefully it continues to dry a bit more and we can get a fair surface to race on. He'll be wearing blinkers on Saturday on the recommendation of Matthew after his last start. He has drawn wide but hopefully he can find the right spot. I couldn't be more happy with him this preparation and he's only going to get better with time."

Race 1 - 12:05PM ILANDSCAPE QTIS Two-Years-Old Colts and Geldings Maiden Plate (1000 METRES)
ColoursNo. / Horse Name / BarrierJockeyWeight
4. Duane (10)Ryan Wiggins57kg

TRAINER COMMENT: "I'm really pleased with him coming up this preparation and I've tinkered with a bit of gear with the blinkers on. From a bad draw, he should be able to roll forward. The only concern is the state of the track and hopefully we don't get any more rain between now and Sunday. He's in good form and I've very happy with him."

Race 2 - 12:45PM TYREWISE QTIS Two-Years-Old Fillies Maiden Plate (1000 METRES)
ColoursNo. / Horse Name / BarrierJockeyWeight
15. Woolsey (9)Sean Cormack  57kg

Race 8 - 4:35PM CALOUNDRA AFL PANTHERS Class 1 Handicap (1200 METRES)
ColoursNo. / Horse Name / BarrierJockeyWeight
11. Gwendoline Rose (NZ) (6)   Ron Stewart     54.5kg

TRAINER COMMENT: "I'm just waiting to see how wet the track is at Caloundra on Sunday as I want to see her on top of the ground. She trialled well at Doomben on Tuesday and we will learn more about her if she gets to the races on Sunday."
